Cooking a Unique Adobo
Cooking adobo is easy as counting one, two, three. For those who don't know what adobo is, it is like Filipino's national dish. Not really national but think it is because we Filipino's commonly cook adobo as our viand. Adobo's main ingredient is commonly meat, poultry products and seafoods like pork, squid, chicken, chicken's feet, liver and gizzard. You can also replace meat by adding vegetables like string beans and swamp cabbage (kangkong). But I have a substitute ingredient that will make your adobo a unique dish. It's none other than Hotdogs. I first discovered it we hanged out at my friend's house. We only have hotdogs for lunch so we planned to make a twist on it. Since we are so desperate to eat, we cooked a simple dish which is adobo. Here are the steps and procedure if you want to try our crazy dish.
First,
Prepare ten cloves of garlic, minced, one cup soy sauce, three fourths cup of
vinegar, one half tablespoon of pepper, one tablespoon sugar, two pieces laurel
leaves and one kilogram of Hotdog. After checking if you already have all the
ingredients, heat the cooking oil in the pan. Now, saute garlic until
limp. Make sure that the fire is on medium temperature or else the garlic
will burn. Add soy sauce, vinegar, pepper sugar, laurel leaves and hotdogs. Let
it simmer for about twenty to twenty-five minutes. Make sure you'll watch over
your dish completely because overcooking makes the hotdogs crush. When it is
already done, transfer the dish in a presentable bowl. Adding sliced hard
boiled egg on top will make your dish more presentable.
Now find a
comfortable place for you to eat. For me, eating in the living room while
watching t.v. is the best. Hotdog Adobo's best partner is hot steamed rice. you
will notice that when you pour the sauce in your rice, its color is maroon,
different from the normal adobo which is brown in color. Also, eating with your
bare hands will make your meal more enjoyable. Don't think that it is awful
because Filipinos always do that. But if you don't like eating with bare hands,
feel free to use spoon and fork.
I hope
that when you try this recipe, you'll be pleased and satisfied. I made this
recipe based on my knowledge and experience. I told you, cooking adobo is easy
right? You will not just be Filipino by taste but also Filipino by Heart. ENJOY
